Blue Herons, August 2022

The other day I got word from a neighbor that right down the street near Eagle Harbor was a very active blue heron rookery, so I figured I’d go take a walk and see if I could get any decent shots of them from the ground–maybe I could even catch some activity during a feeding time with a little bit of luck. There were at least 20 nests at the top of the trees right off the street, with only a couple of the adult herons staying back to help guard the nests while the rest were out in the harbor getting fish to bring back to the chicks.

Backyard Hummingbirds, January 2021

Got lucky with a beautiful day this Saturday and was able to get my first shots of the birds around the new house. I believe these to be either female or otherwise immature Anna’s hummingbirds, which are rare here on Bainbridge. Hoping to get more shots of these.

Ever since moving to the island, I’ve been enjoying watching the local murder of crows from my office window, but haven’t had much luck getting any good shots of them with my current lenses, so I decided I would cheat! Turns out that crows love goldfish and are happy to pose if you’re willing to share.
